Developing an Inclusive Philanthropic Vision

It started off with, I had the luxury for many years of creating the vision of our philanthropy that I wanted. It was very clear to me that there would be a transition from I to Us, being my wife and myself, into We, being our children. So, we came into this with an open discussion, to say, what do each of you believe? What are your core values? And they described that, and they developed together a mission statement. They developed a common definition of the things that were important to each of them and then we looked at that together and agreed, together, on what that was going to be.
