Listen to Jane Raphaely, Tom Hubert and Kathy Hubert discuss the importance of giving back to the community as a family business. When giving back, it is important to reflect on the impact philanthropy has on the community and truly immerse the family business in the community. The more a business involves themselves in a community, the more giving back changes from an obligation to a larger, meaningful experience.
When it comes to donation, again I think that it isn’t enough just to sign a cheque. When you look at the biggest donors in the world, what I most admire about them is the way that they have involved themselves in the causes they are subsidizing.
We do play a lot of roles in those you know, communities, whether its sponsoring little league teams or helping out with schools. It’s very important to us to give back to the community, and to be part of the community and to do that, I think you have to give back.
We’re committed to this community, we’re committed to the communities we live in and I think if you look at most family businesses, there are accountability, and there is a saturation when enough is enough that you don’t start thinking about what am I leaving, who am I, what is my role in this community and this society.
The greatest good and the greatest giving is to give to people who you will never meet and who will never know what you have done for them.
